Do you think you really understand the new national health care law? If you’re like most people and could stand to gain a better grasp of where we are and what’s next, don’t miss a very special Crucial Conversation luncheon with Anton J. Gunn, Regional Director of the Region IV Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The event is co-sponsored by N.C. Policy Watch and the N.C. Health Access Coalition.
Anton Gunn was appointed Regional Director by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in August of 2010. Region IV is HHS’s largest region in population and domestic geography and is composed of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. HHS is the federal government’s lead agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. The Department has over 300 programs covering a wide spectrum of activities including public health, health care, financing, family support, social services, emergency preparedness and food and drug safety.
Before joining the HHS Regional Director’s Office, Mr. Gunn served in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Elected to represent District 79 (Richland and Kershaw counties), Gunn was the first African American in history to represent his district.
