Thank you for the article, “N.C. ‘million acre’ plan falling short,” (AC-T, March 29), about how North Carolina is falling short in its goal to protect a million acres of land by 2009.
Everyone in Western North Carolina certainly sees the rapid changes here and feels its impact on our quality of life. The good news is that many of my fellow members in the N.C. General Assembly want to help solve this problem by providing substantially more money for land and water conservation. I am happy to say that a majority of us in the House, as well as the Senate, have signed on to co-sponsor bills that will provide $1 billion over five years to protect our state’s land and water (HB 990 and SB 15220).
